John’s Auto Care
Growing Two Locations in a Changing Digital World
Reputation Restored
Strategic, Local Targeting
From Liability to Growth Engine

The Challenge
John’s Auto Care is a trusted, family-owned auto repair shop serving the Syracuse community. Led day-to-day by Karen Shannon, Co-owner, the business prides itself on ASE-certified technicians, full-service repair capabilities, and strong local roots. As the business expanded to two locations, maintaining visibility and driving consistent growth became critical. Like many established shops, John’s Auto Care built its reputation through word of mouth and traditional marketing. But as consumer behavior shifted online, those strategies were no longer enough.
The primary challenge was clear:
- How do you spread the word and consistently attract new customers in the digital age—especially across two locations?
Previous efforts included mailers, Google Ads, and website services through other providers, but results were inconsistent. With a newer location on Brewerton Rd needing increased visibility, the team knew it was time to shift strategies and invest in a more focused, long-term digital plan.
The Strategy
Optimize Digital Marketing implemented a multi channel strategy to increase traffic to the newer Brewerton Rd location, retain and grow customers at both shops, drive more calls and website visits, and strengthen brand visibility in a competitive market. John’s Auto Care has been a client since 2017, initially starting with social services. Over the past two years, they transitioned their website, Google Ads, and second location marketing fully to ODM—creating a unified strategy across both shops.
Geo-Targeting
Focused campaigns within a 10-mile radius around both shop locations.
Google Ads Management
High-intent search campaigns targeting customers actively looking for auto repair services. Google Ads became a primary driver of inbound calls and traffic.
Website Design & Management
Updated site experience to improve credibility, usability, and conversion opportunities.
Facebook Advertising
With their NAPA Gold Shop benefits, they launched targeted Facebook ads promoting those advantages to reinforce trust and credibility with their customers.
Organic Social
Consistent messaging centered on being family owned, local, ASE certified, and full service helped strengthen brand identity and build ongoing community connection.
A/B Testing & Optimization
Continuous split testing of ad copy and targeting to improve performance over time.
The Results
John’s Auto Care experienced measurable growth across Google, Facebook, and paid advertising efforts.

Why It Worked
The success of John’s Auto Care came down to three key factors:
- Strong Google Ads Strategy – Targeting high-intent search traffic drove consistent calls and website visits.
- Location-Focused Growth Plan – Strategic emphasis on Brewerton Rd increased visibility where it mattered most.
- Long-Term Partnership & Communication – Great communication and a personal relationship built trust and alignment.
Because the strategy was built around long-term growth rather than short-term spikes, performance improved steadily over time.
Key Takeaway
Growing a multi-location auto repair shop in today’s digital world requires more than occasional ads or outdated tactics. With targeted Google Ads, strong local optimization, and consistent messaging, John’s Auto Care successfully expanded visibility, increased calls, and strengthened both locations.
